Meet Your Instructors

Our instructors’ objective is to give knowledgeable instruction on the fundamentals of firearms and to successfully impart the mindset, expertise, and abilities needed to operate, maintain, and shoot firearms safely.

Firearms Instructor: Jeffrey Turay

Jeff Turay is a Certified NRA Pistol and Rifle Instructor, NRA Range Safety Officer, and USCCA Concealed Carry Instructor. His dedication to training students is defined in the CAMP 2A mission statement: To provide expert instruction on firearm fundamentals, and effectively teach the attitude, knowledge, and skill to safely operate, properly maintain, and accurately shoot firearms.

Jeff is a rifle and pistol competitor actively involved in F-Class High Power Rifle, Precision Rifle Series (PRS), Steel Challenge Shooting Association (SCSA), and United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) matches and tournaments throughout the Great Lakes Region and United States. Jeff holds an NRA competitor classification of “High Master” in F-Class Mid-Range rifle and is a recipient of the NRA’s American High Power Rifleman Award. He is a member of the Illinois State Rifle Association Range (ISRA) and the Aurora Sportsmen’s Club.

In 2024, Jeff was the ISRA’s top scoring F-Class F-TR Mid-Range competitor (shooting .223 Remington and .308 Winchester), and ISRA “400 Club Pin” recipient. In 2024 at the Aurora Sportsmen’s club, Jeff placed 3rd overall for the combined monthly NRA sanctioned F-Class High Power Rifle matches in the F-TR division, and placed 3rd in the F-TR division at the 2025 Illinois F-Class State Championship. In 2025, Jeff was ranked in the Top 10 Great Lakes Regional Precision Rifle Series (PRS) competitors shooting in the Tactical Division (.223 Remington or .308 Winchester).

Jeff earned a diploma in Advanced Gunsmithing from MGS Trade School, is an expert handloader, and a lifelong student of firearms history and ballistics. He is a Sons of American Legion member, American Legion Post 20.

Firearms Instructor: Paul Turay, Sr.

Paul Turay, Sr. is a Certified USCCA Range Safety Officer and former United States Army weapons instructor. His lifetime of experience provides valuable insights and guidance.

Paul served in the United States Army, graduating from Officer Candidate School (OSC) as a Second Lieutenant. At OCS, he was awarded the Army Expert Qualification Badge (Rifle and Pistol) and achieved the highest combined score for Pistol Caliber .45 (1911) and M14 Rifle (7.62 x 51 mm NATO) in his class. While stationed at Fort Dix, NJ, Paul was assigned to the Weapons Training Committee Group as an Officer in Charge. He instructed basic trainees on the M14 Rifle at the defensive and night firing ranges, as well as M30 practice and M26 live grenades at the hand grenade ranges.

In 1967, Paul was deployed to Vietnam in the Central Highlands with the 8th Transportation Group. During his tour, from August 1967 to August 1968, he was promoted to First Lieutenant, given command of the 597th Transportation Company, and was awarded the Bronze Star on August 15, 1968.

Paul is an active member of the VFW Post 9545, and American Legion Post 1977.
